Gimel - We are dependent on the goodness of God for life, as the bones in Ezekiel chpt 37 must wait on the Word of the Lord for the breath of life. We are blind to the wonderful, awe inspiring things of the Law that reveal the depths of God's love for us. Except he open our eyes we will stumble around our daily lives trying to find meaning in the vain earthly things. Israel is a stranger on the earth, whether she acknowledges it right now or not. It is His unmerited favor (or no favor at all), and the nations hate that. See Eze 36 or Deut 9. We must have God REVEAL His plans to us or we cannot see His kingdom. Who among us can say that their soul is consumed with longing for His laws at all times? Especially that longing that does not puff us up with pride. Thankfully He DOES rebuke the arrogant, even if it is us, because He does not want us to be cursed for all eternity. He wants to give us LIFE, to remove scorn and contempt from our hearts and from forces without. If we must be slandered, may it be for righteousness sake, and not for straying from His commands - from His heart. We must let Him put the NEW heart within us (Ezek 36) so that we might TRULY delight in His statutes. What if there is only one way for that to take place? What if it means embracing the despised and rejected one who embraced the despised and rejected?

This section of Psalm 119 begins with a question and then gives a qualified answer. How can a young man keep his way pure? Of course it is by living according to God\\\'s Word. It is the interpretation of the Word that gets us into trouble, but verse 10 is right there to address that objection: -- I DO seek you with ALL my heart, don\\\'t let me stray from your commands. -- Doesn\\\'t this imply that wholehearted seeking does not guarantee a perfect walk with God. As the prophet Jeremiah said, -- The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it? -- Or when Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up in chapter 6 of his own book, he cried out -- Woe is me, I am a man on unclean lips amidst a PEOPLE of unclean lips.-- It took a coal off the true altar in heaven, (which was what Moses patterned the earthy tabernacle after) to cleanse Isaiah\\\'s lips. Some kind of sacrifice had taken place in the heavenlies that was sufficient to cleanse the lips of Isaiah. We need that kind of purifying cleansing in our own lives if we are to see Him and live! I think of Zechariah\\\'s words -- On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity. -- Can you guess what I am thinking about THAT? Read Zech ch. 12 and 13 and see what comes to your mind. One more verse from Isaiah chapter one: -- Come let us reason together, though your sins be like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.-- If God can make THAT happen, then it is surely reason for delighting in His decrees and rejoicing in His precepts.

Blessed are THEY whose ways are blameless. Isn't that interesting? What about Psalm 14 that says --2 The LORD looked forth from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any man of understanding, that did seek after God.3 They are all corrupt, they are together become impure; there is none that doeth good, no, NOT ONE. -- I propose that the resolution is to be found in Isaiah 53 -- 4 Surely our diseases He did bear, and our pains He carried; whereas we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded because of our transgressions, he was crushed because of our iniquities-- and -- 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. The Rabbi's say that Isaiah 53 is about Israel. I will not argue with that. But where will Israel get the strength to fulfill that if God did not go before and blaze the trail? We must have His enabling power to fulfill such a high calling. Where but from Emmanuel, the eternal suffering servant, can we get the character to lay down our lives for those who hate us? Loving His purposes, and not our own lives, IS the fulfillment of the Law. Isn't it interesting that the last verse of this section is -- I will obey all Your decrees, do not UTTERLY forsake me -- That would be a non-sequitur (i.e. a comment that has no relation to the preceding comment) unless obeying all His decrees requires a forsakenness.
